Last week, the 40th Edition of Alimentaria ended. After 3 days of frenetic activity, it is time to take stock on the trends and the most outstanding novelties. We review some of the products that most called out our attention…
140,000 visitors; 4,000 exhibitors from 48 different countries, conferences, cured ham cutters contest, choosing the best chef and waiter of the year and long queues to get a free product, but food is not only that. This fair is also a good opportunity to be introduced to brands, industry professionals and see what the trends in the world of food are.
The Foodistas have covered the enormous fair grounds dedicated to food to find the products that most caught our attention and we present them divided into six different categories: fresh produce, wine, food, healthy, sweet and trend.
In the Wine category, we were advised by Zoltan Nagy, who always leads us in the right direction. He introduced us to Isidro Fernández Bello, the Winemaker and Technical Director of Casar de Burbia (DO Bierzo). We had a long talk with him and his wines. We highlight 100% Godello white wine, whose vineyards are planted on soils from slate and quartz, located 600 meters above sea level (Valtuille de Arriba). The harvest and selection of grapes are done manually, before entering a (unique) cold maceration. This wine has aged for 8 months in its own lees. It has a great aromatic power (flowers, fruits and white stone fruit and a mineral background). It has a medium to high intensity, creamy and with good structure. Casar de Burbia, Godello is ideal as an accompaniment to seafood, fish dishes and rice. In addition, it has just won the 2016 Bacchus medal and you can find it in the market for less than 10€. A gem!
